Assortment of brightly decorated cupcakes
When I first moved to South Florida, I was appalled at how often the cake served at a party or other event was just not good, despite the fact that someone had often paid a lot of money for it at a bakery. In the Midwest, where I grew up, people baked cakes rather than bought them, and these cakes weren’t as good as the ones you could make yourself from a mix. When I was writing the On the Cheap column for The Miami Herald, I wrote a column suggesting that people quit wasting their money on bad cake and make their own.
In recent years, a lot of new bakeries have come to Miami, and the quality of cakes, cupcakes, cookies and other sweet treats has improved significantly. As the season for celebrations (graduation, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, weddings) approaches, we asked around and came up with a list of some of Miami’s best bakeries for our friends at the CubeSmart blog. If we missed your favorites, leave a comment and a link, so everyone can check them out.
Miami on the Cheap has partnered with CubeSmart, a national self-storage company with a number of locations in South Florida, from Miami to Broward to West Palm Beach, to provide content for its City Moving Guide for Miami.
As CubeSmart’s City Guide Expert for Miami, I’ll be sharing insights on Miami from the perspective of a South Florida local. Each month, I’ll share a new article aimed at introducing newcomers to Miami, that special place we all call home. If you’ve got ideas for what to tell newcomers, email me at teresa@miamionthecheap.com.
Disclosure: I’ve partnered with CubeSmart as the company’s local expert in Miami. Articles are written by me and are my opinion.
