Some in-person events offer free entry and free parking, which are ideal for budget-friendly dates, frugal family activities or inexpensive outings with friends. With some festivals, extra fees apply for select activities. and perhaps for parking

  • March 12-13 Aloha Polynesian & Seafood Festival, with food vendors, entertainment and fun for kids; $10 entry, free for age 11 and younger, at 4000 N. Dixie Highway, Oakland Park. Information online
  • March 12 St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival March 12 is in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The Parade is at 12 p.m.  and the festival is 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. at Las Olas Boulevard and Andrews Avenue. Festivities include Irish dancers and other live entertainment. For kids, fun includes  pony rides, petting zoo, face painting, slides, and other activities. Entry is free. Parking fees apply.   • March 13 St. Patrick’s Day fun featuring a parade & festival is 12 p.m. – 6 p.m. March 13 in downtown Hollywood. The parade at 1 p.m. includes floats, New York Police Department Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Corps, and others. The parade is at 1 p.m. with a route including winding along Harrison Street and 21st Avenue, north to Hollywood Boulevard, eastward, & west on  Harrison Street to 21st Avenue. Following the parade, live entertainment is featured.   • April 2-3 International Orchid & Garden Festival, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Bonnet House in Fort Lauderdale, $12  for festival and entry to gardens. Entry into house is an extra $5, free for ages 12 and younger, non-refundable, register 954-703-2606 or online
  • April 2 Brazlian Carnival is 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. April 2 in Hollywood, featuring Gafieira Rio Miami, Jair Oliviera, Baia, Gabi Lacombe and Samba dancers from Bateria Unidos de Miami. An interactive Samba percussion workshop is at 6 p.m. The event is family friendly and entry is free. Fees apply for parking in downtown Hollywood. ArtsPark is at Hollywood Boulevard and Federal Highway.  Information is online.

  • April 9 Save The Food Fest is  11 a.m. – 3 p.m. April 9 and includes nature tours, workshops, entertainment, activities, and plant and seed handouts.  Food Waste Prevention Week is a featured element of the festival at Snyder Park, 3299 SW 4th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale 33315.  Entry is free.
