The Gold Coast Railroad Museum is offering free admission all day Saturday, May 11, for National Train Day.
The event will include a talk at noon by Jonathan Nelson on “Fabulous Florida Trains of the Fifties,” as well as a Big Band concert, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the 113 Steam Engine.
Among the activities and exhibits will be:
- Model train exhibitors’ show.
- Behind-the-scenes museum tour at 11 a.m.
- Railroad videos in the museum theater.
- Tours of the US #1 Ferdinand Magellan, which was the president’s “Air Force One” before air travel.
The museum houses 30 historic trains and features a number of displays that are interactive. Tickets to ride a train range from $2.50 to $12 per ticket. The museum is great for any train enthusiast, Thomas the Tank Engine lover or young kids. The food is reasonably priced (Frankie’s pizza food truck!) and there are plenty of trains to explore.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
