Chili pros and novices are dusting off their aprons, grabbing their spices and getting ready to compete for the “Best Chili in Town” title. More than a dozen contestants will compete in three categories — chili, chili verde and salsa. The event is Saturday, Feb. 8, from noon to 4:30 p.m. at Pinecrest Gardens, 11000 Red Road.
Aside from the chili action they’ll have line dancing with the Chili Chicks, mechanical bull rides, airbrush tattoos and face painting, pie and watermelon eating competitions and appearances by Miami Heat dancers and mascot Burnie. Plus, the 18 Wheelers, a honky-tonk country band will perform in the Banyan Bowl.
Admission is $5 and parking is free. Overflow parking will be available at Pinecrest Elementary (10250 Red Road), Palmetto Middle School (7351 SW 128 Street) and Miami Palmetto Senior High School (7460 SW 118 Street) with the Pinecrest People Mover making continuous stops for pick-up and drop-off from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
