What better spot to commemorate Earth Day than at the eco-friendly and serene Miami Beach Botanical Garden at 2000 Convention Center Dr. ? On April 19 and 20, the garden will be the site for free family-friendly activities, yoga sessions and a musical event.
Saturday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., eco-conscious festivities include an exhibition of sculptures and other works by local artists made from repurposed materials, screening of short environmental films and eco-learning arts and crafts for the kids. The event is being hosted in conjunction with Sustainatopia.
In the evening, from 7-11 p.m. is the Garden Gathering with music by local DJs and live music acts, grassroots vendors showcasing food, clothing and art and a special drum circle performance. Attendees are encouraged to wear anything that glows or shines.
And on Sunday, April 20, from 1 p.m. to sundown, the garden is presenting Frozen Music: Picnic 4, a unique free musical event presented by sound artists David Dunn, Rene Barge and Gustavo Matamoros. The sound installation will feature the sounds of birds, insects and amphibians commonly found in the Everglades. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and food baskets.
