Best free and cheap things to do in Miami-Dade in February

February in Miami is the time to be outdoors after all, we're the envy of most of the country when it comes to weather down here.

That means there are plenty of great outdoor events to attend before it gets too hot and all anyone wants to do is be indoors.

There are also plenty of free and cheap things to do in February in Broward and free and cheap things to do in February in Palm Beach County if you're in the mood for a day trip.

Here's a list of fun things to do in February around Miami:

The Coconut Grove Arts Festival

President's Day weekend in Miami means a long weekend of course but also, the annual Coconut Grove Arts Festival. The annual festival along Coconut Grove’s waterfront is a Presidents Day weekend staple, set for Feb. 17-19, 2024.

The outdoor festival, which began in 1963, will feature the work of 285 fine art artists in several categories including 2D and 3D mixed media, painting, clay, glass, jewelry, metal, photography, sculpture, wood and printmaking.

There will also be the usual culinary displays, live performances and family areas.

Third Thursdays in Surfside

It's a block party! Head over to Surfside for the city's free Third Thursday monthly block party, set for 6-9 p.m. on 93rd St. beach.

February 15th's theme is Mardi Gras where you can hear soulful New Orleans jazz sounds and partake in lively parades and wear festive masks.

The monthly party blends beachside fun activities, samplings of local bites and musical performances.

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

Have you always wanted to visit Miami's historic gem Vizcaya Museum & Gardens? Vizcaya’s European-inspired gardens are reminiscent of those created in 17th and 18th-century Italy and France with the overall landscape design conceived as a series of rooms.

There are plenty of opportunities to visit at a discount and here are some of the events happening in February where admission is only between $10 and $15.

  • Fri., Feb. 9 at 6 p.m.: Wild Vizcaya: An Evening of Discovery and Science for Kids. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Click here for details.
  • Wed., Feb. 14 at 7 p.m.: Musical Vizcaya with concert by the 50-member FIU's Symphony Orchestra performing pieces by John Williams, Schubert and Jerry Bock's “Fiddler on the Roof.” Tickets $15. Click here for details.

City of Coral Gables

Coral Gables Bike Tours

If you're looking for something fun and educational to do outdoors, consider a bicycle tour through “The City Beautiful,” Coral Gables. The third Sunday of each month, The City of Coral Gables and the Coral Gables Museum will host a two-hour bike tour, with different monthly themes. The tour begins at 10 a.m. at the Coral Gables Museum, 285 Aragon Ave. 

The February 18 tour theme is “Salt and a Peppering of History in South Miami”
Join us for this bike tour through the City of South Miami with a focus on historic places and green spaces and a final stop at the Salty Donut for a sugary snack provided by Dade Heritage.

Monthly live music around Miami

There are plenty of monthly live music series around Miami-Dade and the variety of styles and genres is endless.

Every last Friday of the month the MOCA Plaza in North Miami is converted into an outdoor concert venue for Jazz at MOCA. February's featured artist are the experimental duo TWYN. Their sound is both vintage and modern, stretching across indie-electronica, breakbeat, hip-hop, and funk. 

On the first Friday of the month you can catch a new live act every month on Giralda Plaza in Coral Gables. It's a fun addition to Gables Gallery Night, one of the longest running monthly events in Miami. New World Symphony free events

This February, New World Symphony’s I Dream a World festival returns to celebrate the life of pianist, activist, arranger and composer Mary Lou Williams.

As part of the festival, a chamber ensemble of New World Symphony Fellows will perform jazz and classical music written and inspired by Mary Lou Williams at The Black Archives Historic Lyric Theater in Overtown. The concert, called “In the Land of Oo Blah Dee,” will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024. Click here for full details.
