The long-running, popular – and free – Jazz at MOCA has been a fixture in the North Miami community and Miami’s music scene for more than two decades.
The monthly event presented by the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami features an exciting lineup of South Florida musicians playing on the last Friday of every month at 8 p.m.
Pepito Montes is an Afro-Cuban Jazz, singer, pianist, producer and composer, winner of a Latin Grammy on a live recording with Marc Anthony and the Salsa Giants. His best-known compositions include “Ajiaco” and “Cortadito”. Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, Montes later moved to Miami where he created his own band and developed a signature style. He has collaborated with musical greats like Sergio George, Luis Enrique, Jose Alberto el Canario, India and Oscar D’ Leon. Pepito Montes has authored 6 original albums, currently streaming on all platforms.
Arrive by 7 p.m. to enjoy the Museum galleries which open at 7 p.m. and remain open until 10 p.m. MOCA is known for presenting compelling exhibitions featuring all types of art. Past shows have featured multi-media works, sculptures, paintings, video as well as written word. The outdoor MOCA Plaza always features rotating monthly installations as part of their Art on the Plaza series, the last Friday of the month.
Note: Tickets are free, registration requested; seating is first-come, first-served but you can bring your own chair, plus you can visit the museum on a pay-as-you-wish basis 7-10 p.m.
The monthly concert series is offered free of charge at the MOCA Plaza, 770 NE 125th St., North Miami. Free Parking is available immediately east, west, and south of the museum. Handicap parking behind the museum, enter NE 8th Avenue, make the first right into parking lot.
