Holiday concerts at FIU

Florida International University's School of Music will celebrate the holiday season with several holiday concerts:

Here's the schedule of concerts for the next few weeks:

Nov. 30 A Gospel Christmas: Join the FIUnity Gospel Choir, under the direction of renowned gospel artist, Terence Clayton, for an incredibly moving Christmas concert. 7:30 p.m. at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Concert Hall. Tickets $5-$15.

Dec. 1 – Messiah Sing In with Civic Chorale of Greater Miami: The performance of Handel’s Messiah in December has been an annual or biennial tradition at the FIU School of Music for 20+ years. The 2018 performance introduces a new addition to that tradition by presenting a Messiah Sing with the Civic Chorale of Greater Miami. Tickets $5-$15.

This Messiah Sing will feature a professional chamber orchestra comprised of FIU faculty, graduate students and alumni as well as choir of 33 singers on stage comprised of the FIU Concert Choir and alumni, the precise number of singers for which Handel composed. That group will perform the arias and the lesser-known, more challenging choruses. The audience will include 150 singers from FIU and Civic Chorale who will sing the most famous choruses with the audience. Attendees will have the unique experience of hearing both the detailed, nuanced performance of Handel’s solo and choral works and at the same time be enveloped by the most majestic choruses as part of the choir. 7:30 p.m. at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Concert Hall.

Dec. 9 and 12 – Handel's Messiah: The FIU School of Music is bringing a beloved holiday tradition to The Cathedral of Saint Mary with a classic performance of Handel’s Messiah. Your favorite holiday tradition will be brought to life with the FIU Concert Choir, soloists, and instrumentalists onstage. The performance is conducted by Kathryn K. Longo with accompanists Juvenal Correa-Salas, harpsichord and Maria Paulina-Garcia, chamber organ. Dec. 9 4 p.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral and Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. $10 suggested donation.
