On Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. ICA Miami and IlluminArts present Uprising, a musical exploration inspired by Paulo Nazareth’s first solo US museum exhibition, “Melee,” at ICA Miami. Featuring music of Brazilian composers Hector Villa-Lobos, Francisco Mignone and Chico Buarque, along with music by Native American composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate and others, it makes for a non-traditional musical experience.
IlluminArts welcomes back pianist and arranger Mary Adelyn Kauffman, baritone Jorell Williams (previously seen in the 2017 performance “The Dandy Lion Roars”) and soprano, Melissa Wimbish to lead the ensemble.
IlluminArts is Miami’s Art Song and Vocal Chamber Music Series, collaborating with museums and galleries to present site-specific performances of music inspired by the current exhibitions of visual art.
First Fridays at ICA Miami are part of a neighborhood-wide initiative celebrating art and performance in the Miami Design District. Every first Friday, ICA Miami remains open until 10 p.m., offering experiences for visitors of all ages—film screenings, exhibition tours, and performances. Museum guests are encouraged to explore various after-hours activations throughout the Miami Design District, including world-class public art installations by Sol LeWitt, Yona Friedman, Urs Fischer and Buckminster Fuller.
