From extravagant holiday bashes to intimate gatherings, New Year’s Eve can take many twists and turns. While it is known to be on the pricier side, it is possible to celebrate on the cheap. Here are some free and cheap ways to spend New Year’s Eve.

Miami-Dade New Year’s Eve Events

Ode to Joy – A New Year’s Eve Celebration Concert, Collins Park, 2100 Collins Ave., Miami

Orchestra Miami presents the ultimate New Year’s Eve Celebration on Friday, Dec. 31 from 7 p.m. to midnight – an unforgettable, family-friendly, free beachfront concert of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (Ode to Joy), performed by Orchestra Miami, the region’s premiere professional orchestra. Bayfront Park New Year’s Eve, 301 Biscayne Blvd., Miami

Celebrate New Year’s Eve Miami style at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami. This huge street party runs from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 31 and will keep you entertained well into the first hours of the new year. General admission is free but VIP tickets are also available for purchase at

Broward New Year’s Eve Events

Noon Year’s Eve at Museum of Discovery & Science, 401 SW Second St., Fort Lauderdale

If there’s a celebration for the adults, there must certainly be one for the kids. The Museum of Discovery & Science in Fort Lauderdale will host festivities from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The event is included with regular entry fees, $19-$24 for non-members, free for members. In The Game NOON Year’s Eve Party,  2608 Sawgrass Mills Circle, Sunrise

This year the party may be bigger for the kids than for the adults with a one-of-a-kind dance party filled with music, games, lasers and more! Plus a balloon drop to celebrate the clock striking 12. This free street festival full of fun and excitement for children and adults. TGIFamily: New Year’s Eve Celebration at Rosemary Square, 700 South Rosemary Ave., West Palm Beach

Ring in the New Year at Rosemary Square in West Palm Beach with a free family-friendly event. In addition to the festivities at the individual restaurants, there will be family friendly New Year’s Eve celebrations featuring kids activities with Rhythm & Hues, live music, and a NYE countdown at 9 p.m. under The Wishing Tree. Sugar Sand Park Holiday Funtacular, 300 S. Military Trail, Boca Raton 

For ages 4-8, fun activities, DJ, dancing, ball drop and games 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. December 31, with parent or guardian supervision required. Register by Dec. 30.
