Deerfield Island is a natural area on the Intracoastal Waterway in north Broward that’s accessible by boat.
Rides on a water shuttle to Deerfield Island Natural Area are free, weather permitting, on Fridays & weekends.
The free boat shuttle service usually runs from a dock at Sullivan Park, 1701 Riverview Road, Deerfield Beach, at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Please phone for verification the day you are interested in.
Activities at the island park include nature walks and picnicking. Picnic tables and barbecues are on-site
The island provides a habitat for raccoons, squirrels, armadillos, and gopher tortoises, as well as a variety of migratory and indigenous birds. The island was designated an Urban Wilderness Area and a Gopher Tortoise Refuge, according to a Broward Parks & Recreation representative.
