Rene Rodriguez, former film critic for The Miami Herald, now runs the Cosford Cinema on the University of Miami Campus and he's always coming up with some type of innovative film series.

- Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 7:30 p.m.: “The Boy and the Heron” a sneak preview of the latest film by Oscar-winning Japanese animation master Hayao Miyazaki best known for the classics “Spirited Away” and “Princess Mononoke.” RSVP for free tickets here.
- Wednesday, Nov. 29 and Saturday, Dec. 2 at 9 p.m.: “Oppenheimer,” the blockbuster by Christopher Noland starring Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh and Emily Blunt. No ticket or RSVP required.
Deep Cuts From the Sight & Sound List Screening, $5
Another series is called “Deep Cuts From the Sight & Sound List Screening,” a curated film series featuring what are considered the best films of all time.
Conducted every 10 years, the Sight & Sound Best Movies of All Time poll is voted on by film critics, writers, professors and other experts in the field of cinema. A concurrent poll is open only to directors, and their results often vary wildly from the main poll. The Cosford Cinema will be showcasing selections from the second half of the list every Sunday at 1 p.m. through Dec. 3, 2023. Admission is $5 per film.
Here's the lineup:
- Nov. 19: “His Girl Friday” (1939) black & white film directed by Howard Hawks starring Cary Grant, Rosalind Russell and Ralph Bellamy in a romantic screwball comedy about a New York newspaper editor and the trouble that ensues when he discovers his ex-wife is dating an investigative reporter.
- Dec. 3: “Mad Max Fury Road” (2015) directed by George Miller and starring Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy and Zoe Kravitz is the fourth entry in the Mad Max franchise about a woman rebelling against a tyrannical ruler while searching for her homeland.
