Double feature: Black Panther & Wakanda Forever, for teens, WPB

The spirit of Black History Month is multifaceted, as witnessed by the annual series of events that take place in February. Not only do these events honor individuals, families and communities affected by the African diaspora, but they also recognize their rich cultural contributions, in order to educate, uplift and inspire current and future generations.

Festivals, live entertainment, focused activities and educational displays are featured at Black History events throughout Palm Beach County. Many events are free. There also are many Black History Month events in Broward and Black History events in Miami-Dade.

Delray Beach

Black History Parade & Roots Cultural Festival
Saturday Feb. 3, 2024 at noon

Parade route: Northwest 1st Avenue to West Atlantic Avenue, to Northwest 10th Avenue. Celebration featuring the Sounds of Motown follow the parade at Pompey Park, 1101 NW 2nd St., Delray Beach. Call 561-329-7105. Free event, more details online.

Documentary film, “Zora Neale Hurston: Heart with Room for Every Joy”

Thursday, Feb. 8, at 6 p.m., at St. Paul’s Parish Hall, 188 S. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach.

West Palm Beach

Black History Month kickoff at The Square: Ancestor Echoes
Feb. 3, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Square will host a full schedule of enlightening events focusing on the impact of African American culture on the arts, education and entrepreneurship in partnership with Rohi’s Readery at The Square, 700 S. Rosemary Ave., West Palm Beach.

There will be a book fair, panel discussions, workshops, demonstrations, vendors and performers. You can RSVP to save a spot here.

Attendees are also welcome to participate in immersive art and gardening activities, as well as a vendor market highlighting black-owned businesses. All events are free and open to the public. Registration is requested for some activities and events. Information is online. Parking at The Square usually ranges from free to $12 for valet.

Black Art Matters series in Downtown West Palm Beach

The West Palm Beach DDA will present “Black Art Matters,” a free showcase of young talented Black artists amplifying their voices in the community to celebrate African American culture during Black History Month.
