Free entry & cheap activities with animals at Daggerwing Nature Center, Boca Raton

Communing with nature has never been more fun and the Daggerwing Nature Center has so many opportunities for kids and their families to take advantage of the great outdoors.

Admission is free; access to trails and boardwalk are free; most programs have fees usually from $5 to $10.

Weekly:
ANIMAL FEEDINGS & TALKS
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 2:45 p.m.
Saturdays, 1 p.m.
All ages, FREE (Reservations not required)
During feeding time, listen to a short talk about one of Daggerwing’s resident animals.

Dec. 2025 events:

  • MOTHER NATURE & ME: TURTLE TIME
    Tuesday, Dec. 2, 10:30 a.m.
    Ages 2-5 (w/guardian), $4/child (Reservations required)
    Get ready to jump and shout with Mother Nature through stories, live animals, activities, and a craft specifically designed for toddlers and preschoolers!
  • FULL MOON NIGHT HIKE
    Thursday, Dec. 4, 5:30 p.m.
    Adults and children ages 8+, $5/participant (Reservations required)
    Ever wondered what Daggerwing’s boardwalk would be like after dark? First, learn about nocturnal animals in our classroom, and then join a naturalist on a tour of the boardwalk at night under a full moon!

  • DAGGERWING VISITS THE LIBRARY: SNAKES
    Tuesday, Dec. 9, 3:00 p.m.
    Adults and children ages 5+, FREE (Reservations required)
    Enjoy a special program about snakes! Featuring a visit from the nature center’s resident animal ambassadors. Located at the West Boca Branch Library! Call the library for details and RSVP at (561) 470-1600.
  • INTRO TO ARCHERY
    Saturday, Dec. 20, 10:30 a.m.
    Adults and children ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)
    Join USA Archery certified staff and learn about the exciting sport of archery. This program teaches archery safety, skills, and proper use of a bow and arrow before practicing on the range. Equipment is provided. Note: Bows may be difficult to pull for smaller children.
  • ANIMAL KEEPER FOR A DAY
    Tuesday, Dec. 23, 10:30 a.m.
    Ages 8+, $10/participant (Reservations required)
    Animal keepers have the coolest job! Work behind the scenes with animal care staff and volunteers to feed, clean exhibits, and provide enrichments to the animals at the nature center. Learn what it takes to care for these special animal ambassadors.
  • FLORIDA ANIMALS: TURTLES
    Saturday, Dec. 27, 10:30 a.m.
    Adults and children ages 5+, $5/participant (Reservations required)
    Join a naturalist to learn about our native south Florida turtles! Participants will have an opportunity to see and touch biofacts from some common turtles we can find here in the park or our own backyard!

Daggerwing, Boca Raton

Daggerwing features a 3,000-square-foot exhibit hall with live animals, butterfly garden, art gallery and an elevated boardwalk with two trails.

Stop along your walk at the observation tower and catch a glimpse of a variety of winged creatures, such as ospreys, woodpeckers and butterflies (including the Ruddy Daggerwing butterfly, their namesake). You might even see turtles and alligators.

  • Wednesday through Friday from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

  • Closed to the public Sunday–Tuesday, programs by reservation only.

The Boardwalk is open daily, from sunrise to sunset. Public restrooms are accessible when nature center staff is on site.
