Ready, set, shuck! That’s the call for everyone in South Florida who loves sweet corn to show up at the 23rd annual Sweet Corn Fiesta, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, April 30, at the South Florida Fairgrounds in Yesteryear Village. Admission is $5-$10; kids under 5 get in free, plus there will be free parking all day. Ride wristband: $10 for one or $15 for two.
There will be an Amateur Corn Eating Contest (for age 18 and older), and a corn-shucking contest. For city folks who don’t know, “shucking” is the technique to remove stubborn silk and pesky husks from the cob.
In addition, visitors will entertained with live music, great food and carnival rides.

At last year’s event, Gideon Oji was the grand winner by eating 54 ears. He and the other competitors will attempt to top Carmen Cincotti’s world record of 61.75 ears.
