Busch Wildlife Sanctuary

History

In 1983, sanctuary was established for the purpose of nurturing sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals while fostering wildlife and habitat conservation.

Mission

  • Rescue sick, injured, or orphaned native Florida wildlife.
  • Rehab and feed orphaned wildlife, perform examinations, administer medication.
  • Release animals back into the wild after they are deemed to be healthy.
  • Educate the public about native plant and animal species, conservation efforts to protect and preserve Florida’s wildlife, natural resources, and endangered species.

Open 7 days a week from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., rain or shine. Holiday closures: New Year’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

Current patients usually number about 75 at any given time. Annually, more than 5,000 animals benefit from the care they receive at the sanctuary.

What visitors may get to see:

  • native Florida animals up close and learn about their habitats
  • water birds, hawks and owls
  • deer, turkeys and cranes
  • foxes, opossums and other critters
  • river otters, reptiles, snakes and other swamp things

Private animal encounters and special access tours are available; prices vary. Use code MOSAIC25 to get $75 off your private animal encounter in the month of May.

For volunteer opportunities, email volunteers@buschwildlife.org. If you find an injured animal, visit this webpage for do's and don'ts and call the animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Center for assistance at 561-575-3399. See more details at buschwildlife.org.
