Here's a classic story with a new twist: This theatrical production, “Purvis: Othello of Overtown,” reimagines the Shakespearean tragedy through the lens of local Florida painter Purvis Young (1943-2010). Two free public readings of selected excerpts are scheduled for October in South Florida.

The three-act play explores Young’s artistic journey from Overtown’s poverty-stricken streets to an artist whose works are in some of the world’s best known museums of modern art.
