Plenty of festivals, live entertainment and events in Broward are delightfully free or relatively inexpensive.  They're great for dates, families and solo excursions. Grab your favorite reusable water bottle and go.

Free outdoor film & food trucks in Tamarac

Delight in a free outdoor flick at 8 p.m. Friday, May 9 — with food trucks at 6:30 p.m. —   at Tamarac Park and Recreation, 7501 N. University Drive, Tamarac.  The film is “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

Food Trucks  in Coral Springs

Bites-n-Sips features DJ entertainment, scavenger hunt and hula hoops. A variety of food trucks are at the event offering food and drinks for purchase. The venue is outdoors at City Hall, 9500 W. Sample Road 33065. Parking in the garage is free.

Water Works in Pompano Beach

Bring your towel. Water slides, a DJ and food vendors are featured at Water Works. The free event  is 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at the pool and park at 901 NW 10th Street, Pompano Beach. Parking is free.

Ocean Brews beer festival in Deerfield Beach

The Ocean Brews beer festival is 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Deerfield beach parking lot, 149 SE 21st Avenue, Deerfield Beach  33441. Entry is free. Food and drinks are offered for purchase. Entertainment includes Adam Uhlan Band and others.

Beer tasting tickets are $55 while the promotion is offered and $65 at the event.  Free parking and shuttles are offered at Cove Shopping Center, 1500 E. Hillsboro Blvd., Deerfield Beach.

Art Walk events 

Oakland Park

The Art Walk in Oakland Park, with restaurants offering food for purchase, is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 17, around Art Fusion Galleries, 3496 NE 12th Avenue, Oakland Park. 

Hollywood

Free downtown Hollywood ArtWalk features tours, live entertainment, and vendors in a walkable district. The event is 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. third Saturdays on Hollywood Boulevard and Harrison Street.

Great American Beach Party in Fort Lauderdale

The free Great American Beach Party is 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at the beach and Las Olas Oceanside Park. The Great American Beach Party includes water slides, vintage vehicles, parachute jumpers, entertainment, and other features.

Free entry day at Museum of Discovery & Science in Fort Lauderdale

MODS is featuring a free entry day 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, May 31 with an emphasis on presentations, entertainment and activities about storms and weather. The event includes a Kids Zone and Touch A Truck vehicles on display. MODS  is at 401 SW Second Street, Fort Lauderdale 33312.

Children's BookFest at West Regional Library

Performances, activities and free books while supplies last are featured at the BookFest 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Saturday,  May 31,  and entry is free. It's at West Regional Library, 8601 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation 33324

Fort Lauderdale Air Show

The Fort Lauderdale Air Show is Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4, at Fort Lauderdale beach, with fees for prime seating. To see the jets and other aircraft for free, you can usually watch the pilots practice on Friday.

The paid zone extends north from Sunrise Boulevard though Northeast 18th Street along A1A.  The air show is visible from some areas outside the paid zones, including Las Olas Oceanside Park.

Touch A Truck

Davie

Touch A Truck in Davie for kids and families is 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Bergeron Rodeo, 4201 Rodeo Way, Davie. Entry is free. Parking is free.

Pompano Beach

Touch A Truck in Pompano Beach for kids and families is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the park at 1660 NE 10th Street, Pompano Beach. Entry and parking are free.

Beachfront Grand Prix Festival in Fort Lauderdale

The Grand Prix Festival at Las Olas Oceanside Park is:

  • 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, May 2
  •  12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, May 3
  •  12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 4

The event includes a variety of live bands, a Pit Stop activity, food trucks, exotic vehicles and driving simulators. Entry is free. Fees for parking apply.

Las Olas Oceanside Park is at 3000 East Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale 33316.
