Free, festive programs, Mandel Public Library, West Palm Beach

Santa's helpers and visiting elves have been busy decorating for one of its biggest and most imaginative holiday lineups ever.

Seasonal highlights range from a life-size Candy Land game and candy-themed “Storytime Spectacular” to hands-on gingerbread workshops, musical performances, and tech-forward holiday crafting, and more.

Here's a list of upcoming December events:

A Major Holiday Highlight for Children: A Life-Size Candy Land Adventure

Brand-new this year, families can step inside one of the world’s most beloved board games. Throughout December, children and caregivers can explore a life-size Candy Land game, complete with colorful decorations, themed spaces in KidSpace, and sweet surprises. The interactive walk-through is free, self-guided, and open during library hours.

CHILDREN & FAMILIES

  • Send Holiday Greetings
    Dec. 1–31 | KidSpace, 3rd Floor
    Kids can write letters to Santa or design holiday cards. Letters addressed to Santa and postcards with mailing addresses will receive a letter back. Any postcards colored for family and friends with an address also will be mailed out.
  • Let’s Play Candy Land!
    Dec. 3–31 | Prefunction Area, 3rd Floor
    A self-guided, life-size Candy Land game and immersive candy-themed decorations for children and families.
  • Storytime Spectacular: Reading is Sweet!
    Wed., Dec. 3 | 10–10:30 a.m. | Auditorium, 3rd Floor
    A live candy-themed performance featuring singing, stories, costumes, and interactive fun. Families are invited to explore the life-size Candy Land afterward.
  • KidSpace Kitchen with Ganache Bakery: Holiday Edition
    Mon., Dec. 22 | 2–3:15 p.m. | KidSpace, 3rd Floor
    Children in grades K–5 can learn how to gingerbread house decorating tips from Ganache Bakery’s Jamal Lake.
    Space limited; in-person sign-up begins at 1:30 p.m.
  • Baby Rave: New Year’s Celebration
    Wed., Dec. 31 | 10–10:45 a.m. | KidSpace, 3rd Floor
    Glow-in-the-dark fun for babies and toddlers up to age 5.
    Space limited; sign-up begins at 9:30 a.m.

  • Taste Buddies – Holiday Flavors
    Sat., Dec. 6 | 2–3 p.m. | Studio 411, 2nd Floor
    A blindfolded holiday snack taste-test challenge as teammates must guess their favorite holiday snacks.
    Sign-up begins at 1:30 p.m. in TeenSource.
  • Teen Art Club: Holiday Edition
    Sat., Dec. 20 | 2–3:30 p.m. | Studio 411
    A holiday art workshop led by artist Mayling Pao.

  • Teens Make Treats with Ganache Bakery: Holiday Edition
    Mon., Dec. 22 | 3:30–4:45 p.m. | KidSpace, 3rd Floor
    A hands-on gingerbread decorating workshop with Ganache Bakery’s Jamal Lake. Learn how to take a premade gingerbread house and make it great.
    Sign-up begins at 3 p.m.
  • Bah Hum Bug! Holiday Villains Movie Marathon
    Tues., Dec. 23 | 2–5 p.m. | TeenSource
    A movie marathon featuring favorite holiday villains… with snacks.
  • Teen New Year’s Eve Party
    Tues., Dec. 30 | 2–3 p.m. | TeenSource
    Games, snacks, and a countdown celebration, specifically for teens.

  • Budget-Friendly Grocery Shopping & Meal Planning for the Holidays
    Sat., Dec. 6 | 2–3 p.m. | Clematis Room, 3rd Floor
    Learn creative ways to plan your holiday meals without overspending, from Amy Bergman of Amyzing Spaces.
  • Cricut Creations: Holiday Edition
    Sun., Dec. 7 | 1:30–3:30 p.m. | Studio 411
    Create holiday-themed projects using the Cricut; all materials will be provided.
    Registration required; opens one week prior.
  • Good Tidings: Renaissance Holiday Concert
    Sun., Dec. 7 | 2–3:30 p.m. | Auditorium, 3rd Floor
    A Merrye Noyse Early Music Ensemble performs sacred and secular works from before 1600 on authentic replica Renaissance instruments. Light refreshments served.
  • Gifts Reimagined: Crafting with Tech Tools
    Sat., Dec. 13 | 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. | Technology & Innovation Center
    Learn how to make custom tech-enabled gifts such as 3D printed figures and how to digitize your old photos. All materials provided.
    Registration and intermediate computer skills required.
  • Craft a Snowman in a Jar
    Sat., Dec. 13 | 2–4 p.m. | Studio 411
    Create a festive snowman-in-a-jar keepsake to give as a gift or enjoy as a holiday keepsake.
    Registration required; opens one week prior.
