World Ocean Celebration Day event in North Beach

Saturday, June 6 is World Ocean Day and Miami Beach is where you want to be, 81st Street and Ocean Drive, to be exact, for a free family-friendly Beach Activation Day  from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

Spend the morning enjoying activities such as like swimming, paddle boarding, watching a bird release, participating in a beach cleanup and being educated by various environmental-themed vendors.

Here's the lineup:

  • 7:30-9 a.m. Ocean Mile Exhibition Swim with Full Circle Coaching REGISTER HERE 
  • 8:30-9:30 a.m. Beach Yoga with Emilia Garth  REGISTER HERE 

  • 9-10 a.m. Ceremonial Paddle-Out with Surfrider Miami  REGISTER HERE 

Youth Ocean Swim Instruction with Breathe and Splash Swim School  REGISTER HERE

Community Service and Impact Events:

  • 9:30- 10 a.m. Rehabilitated Seabird Release with Pelican Harbor Seabird Station

  • 10 a.m. to noon. Beach Cleanup with Clean Miami Beach, The International SeaKeepers Society, and VolunteerCleanup.Org  REGISTER HERE 

Ocean Art and Education:

  • 8 a.m. to noon: Art Flags by Jenna Efrein. Youth Artwork by Jenna Efrein, in collaboration with Breakthrough Miami, Overtown Youth Center, and The Motivational Edge

  • 9 a.m. to noon: MPA/Neon Reef Advocacy with Urban Paradise Guild.Microplastics Investigation with Oceana

  • 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., Sharky the Dolphin Readings with Blair Mase Guthrie.

Swim participants MUST:

  • Have strong swimming skills and ability to complete a 1-mile open water distance.

  • Be 12 years or older and accompanied by a parent or guardian if under 18.

  • Supply personal swim gear (goggles and brightly colored swim cap) and have prior open water experience.

  • Complete the Release of Liability Agreement (link in Eventbrite registration).
