Victory Black Box Fall Film Series and conversations

The Victory Black Box Theatre in Fort Lauderdale is hosting a Fall Film Series designed to spark community conversation. The center also is hosting a Westerns and Black Cowboys film series about black cowboys in the American West.

The Fall Film Series is the second Wednesday of each month, from 6 to 8 p.m.. The organizers show a film and then participate in a conversation led by members of the community. Admission is $5, either online in advance or at the door.

The Westerns and Black Cowboys film series is 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. the second Monday of the month from September through December. The event is hosted by Don Mizell. Suggested donation is $5 per film.

Here is the film schedule for the Fall Film Series:

  • October 11: Guest host Imani L. Warren, “Tales from the Hood.”
  • November 8: Guest hosts Evan Snow and Andrew Martineau, “Boom For Real: The Late teenage Years of Jean-Michel Basquait.”
  • December 13: Guest host A. Guy, “She's Gotta Have It.”

Here is the schedule for the Westerns and Black Cowboys film series:

  • October 9: Glory (1989).
  • November 13: Buffalo Soldiers: Fighting on Two Fronts (2022).
  • December 11: Posse (1993).

The films are at the Victory Black Box Theatre, at the L.A. Lee YMCA/Mizell Community Center, 1409 NW 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311. Parking is free.
