From specials on oysters or liquid libations to pair with the oysters, the following restaurants have you covered.

What is National Oyster Day and how did it begin?

National Oyster Day is a day to celebrate everything about the oyster. So whether you slurp or chew them, eat them raw or cooked, eat them plain or dressed up — it's the day to celebrate and indulge in your favorite mollusks.

Did you know that there are over 200 species of oysters, but just 5 species are harvested in the U.S.? These include the European flat oyster, the Pacific oyster, Kumamoto oyster, Easter/Atlantic oyster and the Olympia oyster.

Like fine wine, oysters also pick up the flavors and characteristics of the water in which they grew.

About National Oyster Day — the origin is unknown — but it is celebrated every year on August 5. Not knowing the origin is ok with us and it doesn't mean that we're cutting back on the celebration.
