South Florida PBS is hosting a free screening of Casa Laurel, the latest installment in a series that amplifies the voices of residents from the U.S. territories and Hawai’i. As part of the “Homegrown: A Part Of/Apart From” project, this episode explores themes of identity, sovereignty, and cultural agency and is set in Puerto Rico.

The film follows a community of elders gathering in the Calle Loiza district of San Juan, Puerto Rico, for Friday night Karaoke, as the neighborhood around them rapidly transforms due to the forces of gentrification.
Guests will enjoy a pre-screening reception with live music, drinks, and light bites. The screening of the film followed by a Q&A session. The night will conclude with a karaoke party. You can reserve your spot on eventbrite.
