Free Pinwheel Festival and Resource Fair in Davie focuses on protecting youth

Library branches in Broward occasionally feature free entertaining and events including live performances, yoga, and festivals. 

Some events are for kids and families. Others are aimed at adults. At plenty of library branches, parking is free.

Pinwheel Festival at library in Davie

The Pinwheel Festival and Resource Fair is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Saturday, April 11, at the Broward branch library in Davie.

The emphasis is on safety for youngsters with representatives of local organizations.

The event includes:

  • free books while supplies last
  • diaper bank
  • rock painting
  • face painting
  • fire truck 
  • shows for youth with sign language interpretation

The library is at 4600 SW 82nd Avenue, Davie 33328.

Register online. Parking is free. 

Open mic

Acoustic open mic

 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. first Saturdays in April and May at North Regional Library. Performers register by emailing bccopenmicjam@yahoo.com. Entry is free for performers and spectators. 

Venue: BCC/North Regional Library, 1100 Coconut Creek Boulevard, Coconut Creek 33066. 

Junior Maker Fest 

11 a.m to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at South Regional Broward College Library 7300 Pines Blvd, Pembroke Pines 33024

The event includes stations for building and tinkering for ages 5 and older. Also included are:

  • Epic Marble Runs: Design gravity-defying tracks and twisting sculptures using Q-Ba-Maze interlocking cubes
  • Gravity-Busting Towers: Test your balance and precision with KEVA Planks—no glue, just pure engineering.
  • Snap into Electronics: Power up your curiosity with Snap Circuits to see how gadgets really work
  • Cardboard Creations: If you can dream it, you can build it. Explore open-ended crafting with paper, cardboard, and recycled materials.
  • Slime: practice basic chemistry by creating slime. Slime is a homemade toy typically created using a combination of water, glue, and borax
  • Other  STEAM Stations include: robotics with Snapology, balloon powered cars, pinwheels and origami, 3D printing

Africana Arts & Humanities Festival 

The Africana Festival is 11 a.m.  – 8 p.m. Saturday March 28, is at the African-American Research Library, 2650 Sistrunk Blvd., Fort Lauderdale 33311, and entry is free

Musical Journey at African-American Library in Fort Lauderdale

Performance is 7 p.m. Friday, February 20 at the African-American Library, 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. Entry is free. Register online. The event is in recognition of Black History Month.

Moonlight Tales for adults in Fort Lauderdale 

Moonlight Tales is an outdoor event for adults that features storytelling and songs. The event in 2026 is 6:30 p.m. Friday, February 27,  in the park, adjacent to the library at 100 S. Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale.

Registration is required. Register online. Parking fees are about $3 – $4 an hour. 

Orchestra at West Regional Library in Plantation 

Broward Chamber Orchestra is featured in a Black History performance 4 p.m. February 28 at the West Regional Library, 8601 W. Broward Blvd. 33324. Information is on the library website

Holiday Jazz

Emily Kennedy on trumpet and Patrice Risi on piano play holiday tunes at 2:30 p.m. Monday, December 22, while participants sing along, register online.

The Lauderhill Towne Centre Library is at 6399 W. Oakland Park Boulevard, Lauderhill 33313.

Free Holiday Photo Shoots

Various library branches are offering free holiday photo shoots. Grab  friends and family, feel free to bring props, and pick your favorite backdrop.

Holiday model trains exhibit in Pembroke Pines

A holiday model train exhibit is on display through Jan. 3, 2026, at Southwest Regional Library, 954-357-6580, 16835 Sheridan Street, Pembroke Pines 33331. Entry and parking are free. The exhibit features scenes reflecting different decades.

Kwanzaa event 

African dance and other performances are featured at a Kwanzaa event at the African-American Library in Fort Lauderdale. The event features vendors from black-owned businesses. 

The event is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, December 27 and entry is free.

Workshops and activities for kids are offered. 

The library is at 2650 Sistrunk Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale 33311.  Information is online

 

Previous events 

Craftapalooza is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, December 13, at Broward Main Library, 100 South  Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale 33301. Entry and art supplies are free. Register online

The Ukulele event is 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 17, at the Broward Library in Fort Lauderdale. 

The event features the Florida Ukulele Network. Entry is free.  Parking fees apply.

The Broward Main Library is at 100 South Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale 33301.

Free Polar Express Family Night at the Southwest Regional Library is 4:30 p.m. to 7:30  p.m. Wednesday December 17, and entry is free. Registration is requested. The event includes Santa, train rides and other festivities.  Feel free to wear PJs. 

The Southwest Regional Library is at 16835 Sheridan Street, Pembroke Pines 33331.

Hued Songs is the featured entertainment at Soulful holiday events 7 p.m. Friday, December 12 and 12 p.m. Saturday 13 at the African-American Library in Fort Lauderdale 

The performances include gospel, R&B, and other genres that reflect Black holiday traditions and festivities.

Entertainment is at 6 p.m. December 17. Registration is required online

The Carver Ranches branch is at 4735 SW 18th St, West Park 33023.
