Free Cuban cinema series at Koubek Center in Little Havana

Once a month, you can watch Cuban films that represent Cuban filmmaking excellence at the Koubek Center in Little Havana as part of their Cuban Cinema Series. The next screening featuring "La Teoría de la Sociedad Perfecta" ("The Theory of the Perfect Society") and "Alberto" is on Friday, June 26 at 7 p.m. Films are presented in Spanish with English subtitles.

The documentary by Ricardo Figueredo examines the notion of creating a so-called “New Man” and the tragic consequences these social experiments, conducted under the Castro dictatorship, have had on the people of living under repressive and Communist rule in Cuba.

While the short film tells the story of a young man who leaves Cuba during the Mariel exodus only to uncover 12 years later when he returns, a devastating family secret resulting from the violent acts inflicted upon those who sought to escape Castro's regime.

The series was created by renowned film critic Alejandro Rios and is presented by the Miami Film Festival. Each screening features special appearances by filmmakers and guest speakers.
