Free and cheap movies in South Florida this week

Every time I go to the movies, it seems as if the price has gone up again. These days, I can get an entire month of Netflix for less than the price of a movie.

But real movie lovers know that there is nothing like seeing a film on the big screen and sharing the experience with other movie lovers.

We did a little research and found a few places to see movies on the cheap in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Keep reading for all the details.

Go to the movies on Monday or Tuesday

Regal Cinemas’ Mystery Movie Monday lets you see a new release before it opens to the public for just $5. The only catch is that you won't know what it is until you get there. Not all Regal theaters participate, but many do. If you are a rewards member, be sure to log in. Unfortunately, the link on the promotions page doesn’t always give accurate information if you are not logged in or haven’t already set your nearby location. If you’ve done that, click this link to buy tickets: Get tickets now.

AMC offers Discount Tuesdays every week to all of its loyalty members, including Fandango, AMC Stubs A-List, Stubs Premiere and Stubs Insider. Price varies by location. Membership is FREE for the basic loyalty program, AMC Stubs Insider. In many cases, the savings are more than 50% off the regular ticket price, especially for evening show times.

Tuesday is the day to go to Regal Theatres for a discount. Regal Crown Club members can enjoy Value Days with discounted tickets. Exact pricing ranges slightly by location. This deal includes new releases, though special screenings are excluded. (There is an upcharge for premium formats, including 3-D, 4-D, IMAX and RPX.) While you're there, have popcorn. Regal Crown Club members get 50 percent off any size popcorn every Tuesday, too, and membership is free.

Cinemark offers Discount Tuesdays every week at participating locations. Ticket price varies by location. In South Florida, theaters are in Boca Raton, Boynton Beach and Davie.

See a matinee or go late at night

Movie lovers on a budget know that the best time to see a movie is during the day. AMC Theatres offers up to 30% off evening prices for shows before 4 p.m. every day.

Other theaters may offer lower prices for matinees as well.

The Coral Gables Art Cinema “After Hours” cinema series shows discounted late-night movies at the theater in Coral Gables. Offered at 9 p.m. Saturdays, the “After Hours” series offers movies for $5.

But, you’ll need to purchase an annual $30 After Hours membership. The yearly membership includes perks such as $5 admission for all “After Hours” screenings; $8 for 35mm and 70mm specialty screenings outside of “After Hours” screenings; waived service fese when purchasing online; and one free ticket to a screening of a new release.
