CultureFest 305

Where can you find performances of Argentinian tango, Mariachi music, Afro-Cuban Orisha bata drum and dance, Serbian dance and Indian Classical Music? at HistoryMiami's annual Culture Fest 305 on Saturday, Nov 4, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, but advance registration is required.

This is truly a folklife festival that celebrates human enthusiasm and creativity to the fullest. There is literally something for everyone! Not only can you sample and explore the sights, sounds, and flavors of Miami, but you can also experience activities and crafts hands-on. This is an immersive, interactive event for “kids” of all ages.

Here is the schedule of performances:

  • 11 a.m. Association of Performing Arts of India, Indian classical music performance on sitar 
  • Noon Milos Damnjanovic, Serbian traditional dance  
  • 1 p.m. Rocío Leguizamón y Germán Filipeli, Argentine tango 
  • 1:20 p.m. DJ Memo of Scratch DJ Academy, DJing and turntablism  
  • 1:45 p.m. Mariachi Sol de Oro, Mariachi music 
  • 3:05 p.m. Kuyayky Foundation, Andean music and dance parade 
  • 3:15 p.m. Ezequiel Torres, Afro-Cuban Orisha batá drum and dance 

Here is the schedule of demonstrations:

  • 11:30 a.m. Liliane Nerette-Louis, Marie Romaine Desir, and Marie Reole Moncy, Haitian traditional food demonstration 
  • 12:30 p.m. Ezequiel Torres, Everglades National Park, and the National Council for the Traditional Arts, Exploring the natural environment in Afro-Cuban Orisha spiritual practices
  • 2:30 p.m. Sangwon Jeong, Korean Taekwondo demonstration and workshop 

These Interactive demonstrations will happen throughout the day:

  • Bolivian quinoa dishes food demonstrations. Ana Chipana
  • Thai fruit carving and multilingual calligraphy demonstrations. Asian American Advisory Board 
  • Serbian and Balkan traditions. Cultural Square, Rakija Lounge, and Milos Damnjanovic 
  • Food demonstrations. Edible South Florida 
  • Everglades education and batá drum making. Ezequiel Torres, Everglades National Park, and the National Council for the Traditional Arts.
  • Andean traditions. Kuyayky Foundation 
  • Haitian traditional food demonstrations. Liliane Nerette-Louis, Marie Romaine Desir, and Marie Reole Moncy 
  • Carnival costume making and steel pan music. Miami Carnival 
  • DJ demonstrations and turntablism workshops. Scratch DJ Academy 
  • Woodturning demonstrations. South Florida Woodturners Guild 
  • Live art show and interactive experience featuring local artists. Yo Miami and Bat Conservation International
  • Connection Bingo. 10 Days of Connection 

HistoryMiami is located at 101 West Flagler Street, Miami, FL 33130. Parking is suggested at the Miami-Dade Cultural Center Garage (a 3-minute walk to the museum), 50 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33130.

There are four ways you can enter the plaza level. You may enter through the bridge of Cultural Center Parking Garage, you can take the stairwell to the plaza level located on Flagler Street across from, a ramp near the corner of Flagler and NW 1st Avenue, or the stairs located on NW 1st street across from the Government Center. More on parking at the Miami-Dade Cultural Center Garage:Take the south elevator to the second floor exit. Exit this floor and follow the pathway across a covered, above street level footbridge that leads directly to the Miami-Dade Cultural Plaza.
Parking for Museum visitors with validation is a flat rate of $5. Parking may be validated at the Museum’s Visitor Services desk.

Normally, the second Saturday of the month means Free Family Fun Day at HistoryMiami and that event will return on December 10 with “Picturing Community.”
