Festival organizers, libraries and galleries in Broward offer engaging events, live entertainment & exhibits focusing on Black History.

Lots of events, performances and exhibits in 2024 are offered in February  for Black History Month.  Plenty of the events are free. Some that require tickets are offering discount opportunities.

There are also Black History Month events in Palm Beach County and Black History Month events in Miami-Dade, some of which are worth traveling for.

Art Exhibit & Sale

Art Show & Sale at History Fort Lauderdale is  10 a.m. – 4 p.m. February 4-29 featuring artwork by students and instructors from Dillard Center For The Arts in Fort Lauderdale. Entry is free for the Black History Month exhibit. History Fort Lauderdale, 954-463-4431, is at  219 Southwest Second Avenue, Fort Lauderdale 33312.

Sistrunk Parade and Festival in Fort Lauderdale

The Sistrunk parade 8:30 a.m. Saturday February 24 features steppers, floats and vintage vehicles. The route is Lincoln Park, 600 NW 19th Ave., Fort Lauderdale 33311, east on Sistrunk Boulevard to Northwest Ninth Avenue. 

The festival is about 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. February 24  on Sistrunk Boulevard from Northwest Ninth Avenue to Northwest 13th Avenue.  The event includes live bands, games, and vendors. A Kid's Zone is included.

Pompano

Fish Fry is 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. Friday February 23 at Gillis Park, 601 MLK Jr. Boulevard, Pompano Beach 33069. Entry is free.

Pompano

Black History Month Ball is 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. Saturday February 24 with tickets required. Buy tickets online  for $23.18 – $30. The event includes dinner, band and dance performance.

Soul Fest in Oakland Park

Free entry for Soul Fest in Oakland Park 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. February 9, featuring a live band and food trucks offering food and drinks for purchase.

Super Bowl Watch Party in Miramar

Super Bowl Watch Party is 5:45 p.m. February 11, and entry is free, while space is available. Miramar is hosting the event as part of its Black History events. The event is at Miramar cultural center, 2400 Civic Center Place. For information, phone 954-602-3198 or email elaroche@miramarfl.gov.

Positively Africa at Broward Libraries

Julius and Julia Sanna of Positively Africa, an Afro-fusion band, entertain kids and families with songs, dances and tales from the Luo and Zigua tribes of Africa.

Nicole Yarling in Pompano

Vocalist and Violinist Nicole Yarling performs in Pompano & it's free

“African American Women of Jazz”  features jazz vocalist and jazz violinist Nicole Yarling at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday February 15 with free reservations offered online

The venue is Pompano Cultural Center, 50 W. Atlantic Boulevard, Pompano Beach 33060.

Selecta Showdown in Miramar

Selecta Showdown, 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. February 16, is a free event with vendors, DJ entertainment, food and drinks for purchase, 6900 Miramar Parkway, Miramar 33023.  The event features

Tiger Trail Festival in Pompano Beach

Free Tiger Trail Street Festival in Pompano

Fun activities for kids, vendors and live entertainment are featured at the Tiger Trail Festival in Pompano , with festivities recognizing Black History Month.

In 2024, the event is 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday February 17, and entry is free.  Paul Anthony and the Reggae Souljahs are among the performers.

AfroCarib Festival in Miramar

The festival featuring live entertainment is 6 p.m. – 11 p.m. Saturday February 17, with regular tickets prices of $20 – $150.

Nab a 2-for-1 ticket deal if you purchase your tickets by February 8 using the password LOVE.  $20 tickets are for lawn seating and you bring your own seat or blanket. Reserved seating is $30-$150. Performers include Nadine Sutherland, David Lucca, Yung Wylin’ and others.

The festival is at the amphitheater at Miramar Regional Park, 16801 Miramar Parkway. 

Drumming workshop for youngsters at West Regional Library

Register online for a free drumming workshop for youngsters 1 p.m. Saturday February 17 at West Regional Library in Plantation.  The library is at 8601 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation 33324. Parking is free.

Fashion show & entertainment in Hollywood

Free Black History event in Hollywood

The event is 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday February 22 and entry is free. 

The Black History Month festivities include Barry University Ensemble and other performances, drumming and an African garb fashion show. The event takes place at MLK Jr. recreation facilities,  2400 Charleston Street, Hollywood 33020.

Gospel performance in Pompano Beach

Event is not happening   — Entry is free for a Gospel concert at at Ali Cultural Center.  The venue is at 353 MLK Jr. Blvd., Pompano 33060

Free Yoga

Miramar is offering yoga at 10 a.m. Saturdays in February, and entry is free. The venue is Town Center, 2300 Civic Center Place 33025.
