The skies will be awash in colorful, multi-shaped and fluttering kites during the 21st Annual Kite Day Festival on Sunday, Feb. 16, from noon to 5 p.m. at Haulover Park, 10800 Collins Ave., Miami Beach.
Expect to see the 100-foot flying squid, 30-foot flying scuba man, 300-sqauare-foot parafoils. 30-foot flying Nemo Fish, 150-foot flying rainbow and more.
The folks from Skyward Kites host paper kite-building classes and& demonstrations from longtime kite enthusiasts. In addition, there will be kite-flying competitions for both children and adults. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own kites and fly them or purchase one at the event. There will be kids’ activities set up on the grassy field as well.
And what would this event be without food trucks to curb that hunger? You can cool off with a snow cone from Kona Ice, munch on fresh tacos and burgers from Jefe’s, Italian goods from La Nostra’s Pizza and Giuseppe’s Italian Sausage and falafel and gyros from Moty’s Mediterranean Cuisine.
Admission is free and parking is $6. For more information, call Dan Ward at Skyward Kites, 305 893-0906, or Haulover Park, 305-947-3525.
