For a twist on a day at the ocean in South Florida, pitch in picking up litter on the shoreline in Hollywood and see resident rescued sea turtles dining on greens and swimming in a saltwater pool. The event in 2023 is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 1, with free entry. The event features an Earth Day vibe. Local vendors and local ocean protection organizations offer displays and items for sale.
Turtle tours, ocean educational displays and food vendors are featured in the festivities intended for the whole family. Entertainment is provided by a DJ. Participants for picking up litter on the beach are appreciated.
The event is hosted by Marine Environmental Education (MEEC), 4414 N. Surf Road, Hollywood 33019. The resident rescued sea turtles are not releasable due to injuries from boats.
Weekend and holiday rates for beach parking are usually $4 an hour and $3 an hour Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
