Hollywood
Valerie Tyson Band performs at an MLK event 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, January 16, at the recreation facilities at 2400 Charleston St., Hollywood. The event includes dance performances, art and food vendors. Entry is free.
Tamarac
The MLK event is 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, January 16, with free entry and includes live music.
The event is at Tamarac Community Center, 8601 West Commercial Boulevard, Tamarac.
Teen events in Sunrise
There are several events for teens in Sunrise:
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, January 17. Teen Poetry Workshop for ages 13-18. Advance registration is required, 954-747-4646.
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, January 17. Teen Open Mic for middle and high school students. Prior registration is required.
The MLK events are at the Art Gallery, 10610 West Oakland Park Boulevard, Sunrise.

Parade
The parade is 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 19, from Sistrunk Boulevard and Northwest Fifth Avenue, west on Sistrunk Boulevard, north on Northwest 15th Avenue. The parade includes bands from local schools, entertainment and floats.
Unity Festival
Unity festival after the parade is January 19 is at Carter Park, 1450 W. Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. The festival includes basketball workshops, entertainment and a Teen Zone. Open mic entertainment is included. Entry is free. Parking is free.
Gospel Extravaganza
Gospel Extravaganza is noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, January 24, at Carter Park, featuring recording artist Jekalyn Carr.
Pompano Beach
The parade is 9 a.m. Monday, January 19, from Ely High School, 1201 NW 6th Avenue, Pompano 33060 to Moore Park, 901 NW 10th Street 33060.
The festivities after the parade at the park include entertainment and kids' zone. Food trucks and other vendors are featured.
Pembroke Pines
Parade and festivities are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, January 19, in Pembroke Pines.
The parade is at 9 a.m. south on 103rd Avenue to Washington Street, north to 106th Avenue.
Festivities after the parade at the plaza include face painting, activities for kids and families, food trucks and vendors. The featured entertainment is Deep Fried Funk. Feel free to bring lawn seats.
The venue is City Center, 601 City Center Way.
Deerfield Beach
MLK Parade and Event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, January 19. Parade route is Pioneer Park, 217 NW Fifth Avenue west on Hillsboro Boulevard to Southwest Third Avenue, west on Southwest 2nd Street.
Festivities are at Tigner community center, 445 SW Second St., Deerfield Beach.
The event includes free food, rides and vendors. Here is a schedule:
- 12 p.m. FM Band with hits like “Get Down Tonight” and “Boogie Shoes”

Hallandale Beach
MLK parade with floats, performances and vehicles is 10 a.m. Monday, January 19 from the park at 777 NW First Avenue, Hallandale Beach, on Northwest Second Avenue to Hallandale Beach Boulevard to Northwest Eighth Avenue to Johnson Park, 1000 NW Eighth Ave., Hallandale Beach 33009.
After the parade, MLK Day festivities are at Johnson Park.
Miramar
The parade & festival is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, January 19, at Lakeshore Park.
The event includes entertainment and things for kids to do. Feel free to bring blankets or portable seats.
