Miami Book Fair free day and free ticket promo code today only

The 40th Annual Miami Book Fair is set for Nov. 12-19, 2023 and will feature all you've come to expect including Children's Alley, author readings throughout the eight days and plenty of entertainment. The Street Fair will be November 17-19, 2023.

We are also excited to be partnering with the book fair as a media sponsor! That means we will be offering free Street Fair tickets on three separate Thursdays: November 2, November 9 and November 16.

Among the authors who will speak in the days leading up to the street fair are Kerry Washington (in conversation with Eva Longoria), Jada Pinkett Smith (in conversation with Lena Waithe), Joan Baez (in conversation with Justin Richmond), David Brooks, Abraham Verghese, Walter Mosley, Cassidy Hutchinson and Henry Winkler.

Here are some highlights during the Street Fair:

Sunday, Nov. 12 from 5-9 p.m.:
Opening Night “Flashback” Block Party with Bronx native and Grammy Award-winning DJ/Producer Louie Vega plus a pop-up food and drinks for purchase from Smorgasburg Miami. MDC Wolfson Campus Plaza. Free

Monday, Nov. 13 through Friday, Nov. 17 from 6-10 p.m.:
Lost Chapter Rooftop Lounge with nightly parties with local Miami DJ's, food and drinks for purchase from Smorgasburg Miami and with Portuguese wine and bites on Monday, a book swap on Wednesday and a live drawing session on Thursday. Bldg. 1, 4th Floor Terrace. 

During the weekend Street Fair, Friday, Nov. 17 through Sunday, Nov. 19 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.:
Children's Alley with characters like Wembly Wordsmith and Rita Readsmuch with her trusty monkey pal Stanza. Kids can enjoy hands-on craft activities, storytelling and innovative experiments plus lots of fun performances.

Off the Shelf: The Space Between Words A Mini Music Fest with Books, each day during the Street Fair:
Stop by and enjoy musical performances by Guitars Over Guns Ambassador Band, Afrobeta, The French Horn Collective, Miami Beach Rock Ensemble, DJ Carlos Menendez and plenty of other local bands. Also making appearances will be The Biscayne Poet writing poems on the spot and Typewriter Dreams: A Teen Poetry Mic.

BLOOM! By SWAY presented by Live Arts Miami:
Inspired by the beauty of flowers, Bloom! features the aerial antics of three highly skilled and colorful performers atop bespoke 15-foot sway poles. Drawing parallels to the world of humans, Bloom! explores themes of individuality, diversity, transformation, and community. Don’t miss this high-flying act occurring throughout the Miami Book Fair weekend.

Admission to the Street Fair is free on Friday, November 17. For Saturday, November 18, and Sunday, Nov. 19, admission is $8 if you buy in advance online and $10 at the door. Admission is $5 for people 13 to 18 and those 62 and older. Children 12 and younger are admitted free. Adults can buy two-day tickets online for $15. 

The street fair is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. all three days.

Getting to the Book Fair

Miami Book Fair is located at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus in Downtown Miami.

  • From the North: Take I-95 South and exit right onto NW 8th Street. Go straight to 5th Street. Go seven blocks to NE 2nd Ave.
  • From the South: Take US 1 to I-95 North and exit right onto NW 2nd Avenue. Go north two blocks to NW 5th Street and turn right. Go east six blocks to NE 2nd Avenue and turn right.
  • From the East: Take MacArthur Causeway West and exit onto Biscayne Boulevard. Go south eight blocks and turn right on NE 3rd Street.
  • From the West: Take SR 836 East and exit onto I-395. Exit right onto NE 2nd Avenue. Go south eight blocks.

Miami-Dade Transit

Park at any Metrorail station for $4.50 a day and ride the Metrorail to Government Center, where you can transfer to the free Metromover. Exit at either College Bayside or College North Metromover station. Visit www.miamidade.gov/transit for more information and download the Miami-Dade Transit Tracker app for alternatuve transit routes.

Brightline

Get on at the West Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale station and take the train to the MiamiCentral Brightline station. Transfer to Metromover’s Inner Loop and exit at the College North or College Bayside Station.

Tri-Rail

From points north, ride Tri-Rail south to the Tri-Rail/Metrorail Transfer Station. Board the southbound Metrorail (see Metrorail). For information on Tri-Rail, visit tri-rail.com.

Trolley

Hop-on-hop-off the free Miami Trolley, which runs regular service to downtown on its Brickell, Coral Way, Midtown, and Overtown routes. For routes and schedules, visit miamigov.com/trolley.

Parking at the Book Fair

MDC Wolfson Campus Parking Garage: FREE parking is available at the MDC Wolfson Campus Parking Garage at 500 NE Second Avenue from Sunday, November 12 to Sunday, November 29. The entrance is on Northeast Fifth Street between First and Second avenues.

Garage No. 3: College Station (190 N.E. 3rd Street). Flat fee of $5 from Sunday, November 12, through Sunday, November 19, for Book Fair events. The entrance is on Northeast Third Street between First and Second avenues. 
 
Garage No. 4: Convention Center Garage (100 S.E. 2nd Street, Bank of America Building). Flat fee of $5 from Sunday, November 12, through Sunday, November 19, for Book Fair events. The entrance is on Southeast Second Street and Southeast Third Street.

Teresa Mears is a publisher, writer and editor who was raised to be frugal. She became a website entrepreneur after 30 years as an editor at newspapers ranging in size from the Portland (Tenn.) Leader to The Los Angeles Times and The Miami Herald, where she worked most recently. She moved to Florida in 1980 because it was the only place she could get a job during that recession and has lived in South Florida since 1985, in Miami, Hollywood, Tamarac, Wilton Manors and Fort Pierce.
