Miami Book Fair entices tweens, teens and young adult readers

For nearly 40 years, the Miami Book Fair has transformed Downtown Miami into an open-air public library and street fair, with author presentations, music, entertainment, activities and shopping. This year’s literary smorgasbord for 2022 takes place Nov. 13-20, with live and streaming events. South Florida on the Cheap is proud to be a media partner of the fair. Please stay tuned for special promos and/or ticket giveaways as we get closer to the event(s).

Free admission on Friday 11 a.m.-3 p.m. + 5 p.m.-9 p.m.
Saturday-Sunday is free for kids 12 and under
Adult Street Fair ticket prices are $5-$8 at the gate

Topping the “what’s trending” list are books by and for the young adult (YA) audience that include genres like fantasy and adventure, sci-fi, romance, teen fiction and some of the best suspenseful stories written for avid readers who embrace what the #BookTok challenge and phenomenon is. We will also be following this post up with Q&As with the YA authors. So, stay tuned!

Following is a sampling:

“Lightlark,” by Alex Aster: “There are lies and liars all around you…
Once every 100 years, the island of Lightlark appears for 100 days, to host a game where 6 rulers of realms fight to break their deadly curses.”

Katherine Applegate’s, “Odder” delivers an uplifting tale of an inquisitive sea otter pup raised by scientists after being separated from her mother.

“Family of Liars,” by E. Lockhart, features a windswept private island off the coast of Massachusetts with a hungry ocean, churning with secrets and sorrow, an unpredictable boy and a summer of unforgivable betrayal and terrible mistakes. Our very own editor, Liz Amore, will be in conversation with the author (date and time TBA).

Andrew Joseph White’s “Hell Followed with Us,” is a furious, queer debut novel about embracing the monster within, whose trans boy Benji, who learns about unleashing its power against oppressors.

Carrie & Yarrow Cheney’s “Superworld: Save Noah” takes place in a world where everyone is extraordinary and it takes a totally normal kid to save the day … even when every 12-year-old kid feels like they don’t fit.

The Book Fair has something for everyone. It is truly a Miami event that attracts people from all over the world each year to the doorsteps of Miami-Dade College at the Wolfson Campus.
