Jam on percussion for free in Kendall (plus special immersive drum and tech event)

Channel the inner musician  you've always wanted to be on Friday nights during the free Friday Night Drum Jam from 7-9 p.m. at the South Florida Center for Percussive Arts, 12770 SW 125 Ave., Ste. 101, Miami, FL. This event is for all ages and abilities.

Each Friday evening guests can try many different percussion instruments including hand drums and drum sets. The event happens most Friday nights, but it's wise to check ahead.

There will be no jam on January 30, because the center is hosting a free two-day multi-sensory performance and art installation that mergers live music with technology. The experience will turn the center into a playground of rhythm, color and emotion, according to the promo info. It will involve more than 50 musicians, plus students.

There will be two performances on each night. Events are:

  • 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, January 30.
  • 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, January 31.

While the event is free to attend, you must reserve free tickets here. It is designed for all ages, but small children may want ear protection because, well, drums can be loud.

Once you have reserved a ticket, you will receive more detailed information about the performance times.

The community jam session, from 8-10 p.m., takes place monthly, on Wednesday nights. A $5 donation is suggested. Guitar players need to bring their own amps.  This event is temporarily suspended.
