Arsht Center’s ‘Live on the Plaza’ outdoor music showcase

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts is a busy place with plenty of indoor shows but its outdoor Live on the Plaza events are perfectly suited for a line-up of local artists during the somewhat cooler Miami months. Concerts are at 7:30 p.m. on the Thomson Plaza for the Arts @ Ziff Ballet Opera House 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. 305-949-6722. Tickets: $20

Three-time Grammy Award nominee Jody Hill founded the versatile, high-energy, rhythm and blues band whose repertoire features unstoppable grooves.

Cortadito on May 3
A traditional folk and acoustic band that focuses on performing son (pronounced “sown”), one of the earliest styles of Cuban country music, their sound can best be described as reminiscent of the famed Buena Vista Social Club.

Afrobeta on May 17
The Miami-based duo of percussionist Tony “Smurphio” Laurencio and vocalist Cuci Amador are a fixture on Miami’s music scene featuring feel-good lyrics and electro beats.
