Free International Ballet Festival of Miami dance film series and performances

The International Ballet Festival of Miami is hosting a free dance film series in July and August at the Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center in Downtown Miami. The performances take place at venues around Miami and are noted below.

Here is the schedule and what is screening:

"Ballets Russes"
Tuesday, July 28 from 8-9:15 p.m. 
Film about a revolutionary 20th-century ballet company founded in Paris in 1909 by Russian impresario Serge Diaghilev that blends avant-garde art, music, and choreography by Igor Stravinsky, Pablo Picasso, and Vaslav Nijinsky.

Youth Dance Marathon at Bayfront Park
Sunday, Aug. 2 at 3-4:30 p.m.
Outdoor performance spotlighting young talents and future stars held in collaboration with Dancetown Miami, Dance Attack, Dance Empire, St. Lucie Ballet, International Dance Academy, and other partners.

"Primera Danza"
Monday, Aug. 3 from 8-9:30p.m. 
Documentary by Priscilla Vizcaino showcasing legendary Dominican Republic dancer, choreographer and ballet mistress Mrs. Miriam Bello.

"Cuban Dancer"
Wednesday, Aug. 5 from 8-9:30p.m. 
Coming of age film about Cuban ballet Alexis who at 15 is forced to flee Cuba and must adjust to life in the United States while staying true to his Cuban roots. The film by Roberto Salinas was featured at the Miami Film Festival where it garnered an award.

Contemporary Performances - Open Stage on Lincoln Road Euclid Oval
Thursday, Aug. 6 from 8-9 p.m.
Program showcasing national and international modern and contemporary dance companies featuring a variety of dance styles and music. 

"Los Pasos del Tiempo"
Friday, Aug. 14 from 8-9:15 p.m. 
The film tells the story of ballet's introduction in the Dominican Republic led by Herta Brauer, Magda Corbett, and Clara Elena Ramírez leading to the founding of Ballet Concierto Dominicano by Ramírez to ensure the ballet tradition continues to inspire new generations of Dominican dancers.
