Families of all ages are invited to Gopher Tortoise “Shell-a-bration Day,” 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, April 8. No reservations needed. Event is free.
Help celebrate the preserve’s most unique inhabitant — the Gopher tortoise, with walks, displays, and activities focused on this threatened species that is a common native to South Florida's back yards. Enjoy story time for young children, tortoise habitat hikes, and meet-and-greets with the ambassador tortoise, Sparky. Participation is free thanks to a grant from the Gopher Tortoise Council and Friends of Okeeheelee Nature Center, 7715 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL (561) 233-1400.
