Free & inexpensive New Year’s Eve festivities day and night in Broward

If you're looking for something interesting to do New Year's Eve, several festivities are free and relatively inexpensive, including an outdoor party in Fort Lauderdale with live entertainment, an anchor drop and early activities for kids and families.

Family-friendly entertainment and activities for kids are about 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, with an early countdown at 7 p.m.  Activities for youngsters include  inflatable slides, face painting and games.

Live music and a DJ are featured about 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.  A  20-foot-tall 17-foot-wide anchor embellished with thousands of LED lights drops at midnight. 

The venue is Southwest Second Street and Southwest Fifth Avenue in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Downtown parking fees apply. At some places, parking is $20. Parking information is online. Information about the event is online or 954-828-5363

Plantation Walk

Happy Noon Year Kids Party 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. December 31 with party favors and bubbles and entertainment featuring Miss Tracy Sings and a DJ

8 p.m. December 31  – 1 a.m. with street performers, DJ entertainment and party favors 

Plantation Walk dining, entertainment and shopping plaza is at 321 N. University Drive, Plantation.

Events usually are free, with free parking. Pets are usually permitted. Outside food and beverages are typically not permitted.

Miramar

Miramar features an event with an early ball drop, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. December 31, including inflatables, face painting and ball drop at 4:50 p.m. Entry is free. Parking $10.

Other festivities are 9 p.m. with fireworks at midnight. Entry is free. Parking is $10.

The events are at Miramar Regional Park, 16801 Miramar Parkway 33027.

Hollywood

Rock Out at 9:30 p.m. – 12 a.m., featuring Apache Dragon. Parking fees apply. Entry to the event is free. 

Hallandale Beach

Symphony of Lights at Gulfstream Park shopping, dining and entertainment plaza. The light shows are usually on the hour 6 p.m. – 11 p.m., entry and parking are free

Gulfstream Park Village, 954 454-7000, is at 901 S. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach 33009.

Fort Lauderdale

Xtreme Action Park is featuring a Neon New Year's Eve Skate Party 7 p.m. December 31 to 1 a.m. for 18 and older.  Regular tickets are $20 online. Xtreme Action Park, 954-491-6265, 5300 Powerline Road, Fort Lauderdale 33309.

Bowling

Lots of bowling lanes offer New Year's Eve packages.

Plantation

Rockin' Noon Year's Eve Party 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 31 at Young At Art with balloon drop at noon, DJ entertainment & art  activity. The fee is $12 per person for ages 2 and older, and free for Museum members and members of North American Reciprocal Museum Association. Young at Art, 954-424-0085, is at Broward Mall, 8000 W. Broward Blvd., Plantation 33388.

Tradewinds Park in North Broward

Fantasy of Lights drive-through display at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek is about $28 per vehicle and about $60 for vehicles for at least 15 people. Tradewinds Park is at 3600 W. Sample Road. Register for emails, which occasionally include discount opportunities.
