Free & inexpensive New Year’s Eve festivities & things to do in Broward

If you're looking for something fun to do New Year's Eve, several festivities Tuesday, December 31 are free and relatively inexpensive, including an outdoor party in Fort Lauderdale with live entertainment, an anchor drop and early kid-friendly activities.

Free New Year's Eve Festivities in Broward

Fort Lauderdale

Family-friendly entertainment and activities for kids are about 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, with an early countdown at 7 p.m.  Activities for youngsters include  inflatable slides, face painting and games.

Live music is featured about 9:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.  A  20-foot-tall 17-foot-wide anchor embellished with thousands of LED lights drops at midnight. Entertainment includes Valerie Tyson Band.

The venue is Southwest Second Street and Southwest Fifth Avenue in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Downtown parking fees apply. Parking information is online. Information is online or 954-828-5363

Hollywood

Free  live rock  at 9:30 p.m. – about 1 a.m., featuring the band Sippin Fire. Parking fees apply.

Hallandale Beach

Symphony of Lights at Gulfstream Park shopping, dining and entertainment plaza. The light shows are on the hour 6 p.m. – 11 p.m. December 31, entry and parking are free

Fort Lauderdale

Xtreme Action Park is featuring a Neon New Year's Eve Skate Party 7 p.m. December 31 to 1 a.m. for kids and adults. Includes roller skating, DJ entertainment &  projection screens airing the Times Square festivities around midnight. Regular tickets are $20 online. Bowling

Lots of bowling lanes offer New Year's Eve packages.

Plantation

Rockin' Noon Year's Eve Party 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 31 at Young At Art with balloon drop at noon, entertainment & art  activity. The fee is $12 per person for ages 2 and older, and free for Museum members and members of North American Reciprocal Museum Association. Young at Art, 954-424-0085, is at Broward Mall, 8000 W. Tradewinds Park in North Broward

Fantasy of Lights drive-through display at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek is $28 per vehicle and $60 for vehicles for at least 15 people. Tradewinds Park is at 3600 W. Sample Road. Register for emails, which occasionally include discount opportunities.
