Free and cheap events at MOCA in North Miami

The Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami is the place to check out groundbreaking and thought-provoking exhibitions and catch live jazz acts on the last Friday of the month during the free Jazz at MOCA. However, it's also where to go for other free and cheap events.

There's something for everyone all month long including classes for kids and adults and other exhibition-themed special events.

Saturday, Sept. 5 - miniMakers
2-4 p.m., free
Patterned artwork inspired by Amanda Linares and Manuel Gonzalez using fabric, foam, colors, symbols and accessories.  RSVP here.

Sunday, Sept. 6 - Sunday Stories
10:30-11:30 a.m., free
"Say it with me" ("Dilo conmigo") the book by Nancy S. Torres inspires this bilingual workshop with a call and response reading and a take home handmade handprint card. RSVP here. 

Saturday, Sept. 12 - MOCA Makers with Nicole Combeau
1-3 p.m., free, $10 for members; $15 for non-members (art pack included)
Local artist Nicole Combeau leads a workshop that explores the theme of "Home" through collage and accordion-style bookmaking. RSVP here.

Saturday, Sept. 26 - MOCA Fest
Noon to 5 p.m. - free
Community-wide celebration honoring the museum's Teen Art Force with plenty of artful activations and community fun. RSVP here.

Friday, Sept. 25 - Jazz at MOCA
