We've rounded up four free and cheap Chinese New Year celebrations throughout Miami-Dade County and listed them here. Happy Year of the Rooster 2017!

MIAMI DADE COLLEGE WOLFSON AND KENDALL CAMPUSES 

The Confucius Institute at Miami Dade College will celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Rooster with two events at the Kendall and Wolfson campuses.

The Chinese New Year falls on Jan. 28, which will see the Chinese zodiac sign change from sheep to monkey, the ninth animal of the 12 Chinese zodiac signs. For the past six years, the CI at MDC has hosted Chinese New Year celebrations that have enriched the cultural lives of students, faculty, staff, and surrounding communities.

Jan. 25: 12 – 1 pm at the Wolfson Campus Student Breezeway, 300 N.E. Second Ave.

Chinese New Year Celebration featuring Chinese calligraphy demo and exhibit, stage performances, Chinese martial arts, Tai Chi, instrumental music, folk dances, and traditional refreshments included.

Free and open to the public.

Feb. 19: 11 am – 6 pm at the Kendall Campus Fred Shaw Plaza, 11011 S.W. 104 St.

The Chinese New Year Festival, now in its 29th year, is co-hosted with the Miami Chinese Cultural Foundation. Activities will includes two shows featuring professional acrobats, lion and dragon dances, drumming, arts and crafts, exhibits, traditional foods, a children’s playground, and more.

Admission: $10 adults, $5 children under 12, free for children five years of age and younger.

Parking is free.

Feb. 22: 11:30 am – 1 pm at the North Campus, Building 4000, 11380 N.W. 27 Ave.

Chinese New Year Celebration featuring Chinese calligraphy demo and exhibit, Peking opera singing, Chinese martial arts, Tai Chi, instrumental music, folk dances, fashion show, and traditional refreshments included. Free and open to the public.

DADELAND MALL AND THE FALLS SHOPPING CENTER  

Jan. 28: 3-5 pm at The Falls in Kendall

Shoppers at The Falls can enjoy a time-honored Chinese New Year celebration with activities for all ages. Shoppers will have the opportunity to participate in a Tai Chi demonstration in Center Court at 3PM, courtesy of the YMCA of South Florida, and kids can enjoy Chinese theme arts and crafts. Additionally, you and your family may “get lucky” with a surprise gift card and fortune cookie, provided by P.F. Changs.

Jan. 28: 2-4 pm at Dadeland Mall in Kendall

Shoppers will have the opportunity to enjoy arts and crafts, a Lunar New Year-themed photo booth and a live Lunar New Year painting with name takeaways in traditional Chinese calligraphy. There will also be a traditional Chinese dance performed by the Miami Chinese School followed by a Tae Kwon Do demonstration with Better Families Tae Kwon Do.
