Free Art Deco Weekend on Miami Beach

The pastel colored Art Deco architecture is once again being celebrated at the 47th Annual Art Deco Weekend happening Jan. 12-14, 2024 on Ocean Drive between 5th and 15th Streets. This year's theme is “Celebrating Florida's Historical Coastal Communities.”

Hours are: Friday, Jan. 12, from noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 13, and Sunday, Jan. 14, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Free on Saturday, Jan. 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and held at The Wolfsonian, 1001 Washington Ave., Miami Beach; organized with Miami Design Preservation League.

  • 11 a.m.–noon: Deco Deep Dive
    Wolfsonian curator Lea Nickless will delve into the stories of these design elements (and collection objects) found in and around 1001 Washington Avenue—where did they come from, and how did they end up in Miami Beach?
  • 1–2 p.m.: The Florida House, 1945-1965
    Scholar Anna Andrzejewski explores how these efforts were so successful that within a generation, both coasts of South Florida were transformed into a sprawling suburban landscape.
  • 3–4 p.m.: Dwell Time
    Based on her just-published memoir, Dwell Time, conservator Rosa Lowinger discusses preserving modern tropical buildings in Miami and Havana.

Parking

City garages are located between Washington and Pennsylvania Avenues on 12th Street (connected to the Miami Beach Police Department), Collins Avenue at 7th and 13th Streets, and Drexel Avenue at 12th Street. An open lot is situated across the street on Washington Avenue at 10th Street next to the Washington Park Hotel, and metered street parking is available along Washington. In addition, parking is permitted in nearby residential zones, 7 a.m.-6 p.m., on non-holiday weekdays. Please heed any posted parking restrictions. See the Parking Guide for a map of suggestions.
