The United States Air Force Thunderbird’s F-16 demonstration team will tear through the skies over Homestead Air Reserve Base during the annual Wings Over Homestead Air Show on April 1 and 2, 2023. Doors open at 9 a.m. and close at 3 p.m.
Admission is free and tickets are not required for general admission. Food, beverages and memorabilia will be available for purchase.
Wings Over Homestead organizers are really excited to have the T-birds back in Homestead.
Here's what you'll see in the sky:
The Thunderbirds, known as America’s Ambassadors in Blue formed in 1953 and have been the Air Force’s official air demonstration team for 70 years.
The F-22 Raptor is a fifth generation fighter jet that capable of air-to-air and ground-to-air missions, making it vital to 21st century Air Force operations. The USAF F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team based out of Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virigina has performed in over 250 demonstrations, showing off the skills of U.S. Air Force Pilots and the power of the F-22 Raptor.
Based out of Homestead Air Reserve Base, the 93rd Fighter Squadron “Makos” fly and maintain the F-16C Fighting Falcon. Their F-16s can be identified by the letters “FM” (“Floridia Makos”) and the Mako shark displayed on the tail.
The Commemorative Air Force’s Tora Tora Tora which began in 1972, when six replica Japanese aircraft used in the movie were donated to the CAF. The show combines pyrotechnics with a thrilling airshow to reenact the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor.
Rob Holland a premier airshow performer and freestyle aerobatic competition pilot who has been in the airshow industry for over 18 years. He will be flying the his MXS-RH, all carbon fiber, single-seat aerobatic airplane designed and built by MX Aircraft.
The P-51 Mustang a single-seat, single-engine fighter aircraft designed and produced by North American Aviation. It was an invaluable part to the success of the Allies during World War II.
The de Havilland DH-115 which is the worlds first single engine jet fighter. Development for the aircraft began in 1943, during the Second World War. It was operated as a front-line fighter until 1953.
Besides the performing aircraft, many other warbirds, classic and vintage aircraft, along with military vehicles and aviation-related items will be on static display for up-close viewing by the public.
