For indoor entertainment that's friendly to your budget, the Sunrise branch library shows favorite old films for free.
Feel free to treat yourself to snacks, too. Refreshments are $1.
Films are featured at noon on Thursdays. Here is the schedule:
- October 5: Tammy & the Bachelor (1957)
- October 12: Calamity Jane (1953)
- October 19: The Long, Hot Summer (1958)
- October 26: Rebel Without a Cause (1955)

For Halloween, the library is also offering a Retro Creature Feature series. Free films are shown at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays in October and at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2023. Popcorn is free, and other snacks are $1. If you want to make sure you get a seat, you can register in advance.
Here is the schedule for the Retro Creature Feature series:
- Wednesday, October 11: The Thing (1982 version)
- Wednesday, October 18: Fright Night (1985 version)
- Wednesday, October 25: The Fly (1986 version)
- Tuesday, October 31: An American Werewolf in London
