May The Fourth festivities at Oceanside Park in Fort Lauderdale

You don't need to be from a galaxy far away to delight in this event. Some organizations and recreation departments offer  "Stars Wars Day" festivities for May the 4th, a whimsical wordplay on the iconic phrase associated with the blockbuster movies.

Festivities in Broward include

Star Wars event in Hollywood

PlastiCon Expo  with a Star Wars vibe is 12 p.m. - 7 p.m May 4 at Flippers theater and arcade, 7001 Taft Street, Hollywood 33024. Entry is free.

The event includes

• cosplay contests
• short films
• vendors selling such items as vintage toys, Pokémon, and video games
• film screening, with tickets online about $19
