The federal holiday emphasizes social and political freedom and equality. It recognizes the accomplishments and values of King, who promoted peaceful advocacy for social justice.
Here are some of the Broward events to honor Rev. King in 2024.
Hollywood
Live music
6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, January 12, at ArtsPark at Federal Highway and Hollywood Boulevard. The event features local performers 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the popular Valerie Tyson band at 8 p.m., with free entry. Parking on streets is $1.50 per hour. Garage Parking is $1 per hour.

Fun Day
1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday January 13, the Fun Day includes bounce houses, entertainment and food for purchase at the MLK recreation building. The address is 2400 Charleston Street, Hollywood
.Pompano
Parade and Fest
The parade is 9 a.m. Monday, January 15, from Ely High School, 1201 NW 6th Avenue, Pompano 33060, to Moore Park.
The fest is 11:30 a.m. January 15 at the park, 901 NW 10th St, Pompano Beach 33060. The festival includes a kids' area, live music and food for purchase.
Fort Lauderdale
Parade and festival
The parade is 9:30 a.m. Monday, January 15, from Sistrunk Boulevard and Northwest Fifth Avenue, west on Sistrunk Boulevard, north on Northwest 15th Avenue. The parade includes bands from local schools, entertainment and floats.
A festival is after the parade until 3 p.m. at Carter Park, 1450 W. Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale.
Gospel Extravaganza
Gospel, Hip Hop and other entertainment is featured at Gospel Extravaganza from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, January 20, at Lincoln Park, 600 NW 19th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. The event includes dance performances, a game truck, games, bounce houses and free popcorn. For information, call 954-828-7275.
Deerfield Beach
MLK Parade and Event January 15 at McKeithen recreational building, 445 SW 2nd St., Deerfield Beach.
Event is 10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. and includes speakers, live entertainment and food.
Tamarac
Family Fun Day and Health Resource Fair is 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, January 13, with free entry. The event includes food trucks, live entertainment, inflatables, and games.
