Juneteenth Family Day in Miramar

Festive Juneteenth events in Broward include entertainment, speakers, and festivals with activities for kids.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday representing freedom from slavery in the United States. In Broward, Juneteenth events are various dates, and plenty offer free entry.

Please verify the event you are interested in is on. Some events were postponed because of rain and flooding.

In 2024, Juneteenth events  include

Sunrise

Tunes & Trucks Friday, June 21 is featuring a Juneteenth vibe. Food trucks are offered at 6 p.m., and entertainment is at 7 p.m. featuring Krush Party Band. The band plays R&B and Motown hits.

Entry and parking are free. Lawn seats and blankets are recommended.

The festivities are at City Park, 6600 Sunset Strip.

Film Pompano Beach

Free outdoor film 7 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at Hunters Manor Park at 1801 NW 4th Street, Pompano Beach.

The film at 8 p.m.  is “The Color Purple”

Dania branch library

Event is rescheduled  —- Juneteenth program featuring a presentation about the holiday is 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 29 at the Dania branch library, 954-357-7073, 1 Park Avenue East, Dania Beach. The program is free.

Lauderhill 

Juneteenth events at Lauderhill Performing Arts, include

7 p.m. Thursday, June 20

The free event is a showcase of art and artists including a panel discussion

8 p.m. Friday, June 21, tickets are $21

The event includes an emphasis on Pride, with visual arts and music by Marcus Terell and the Serenades

Entertainment includes DJ Dimples; comedy by Brax, Brooke Cartus, and Julie Baez

7 p.m. June 22, tickets are $40

Performers include Alexander Star, violinists Sons of MyStro and Friends, and Yung Wylin performing “Good Energy”

Lauderhill Performing Arts is at 3800 NW 11th Place, Lauderhill 33313.  Purchase tickets online.

Previous events

Hollywood

Juneteenth event is 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, June 14, at ArtsPark on Hollywood Boulevard and Federal Highway, Hollywood 33020. 

Street parking  is $1.50 per hour. Garage Parking is $1 per hour. 

Garage locations are:

  • 251 S. 20th Ave., between Harrison and Van Buren streets
  • 251 N. 19th Ave., between Tyler and Polk streets

Tamarac

Juneteenth event is 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15, with entertainment, food vendors and kids activities. Entertainment includes the band Old Skool Gang. A dance performance features Ashanti cultural Arts. The event is at Tamarac sports complex, 9901 NW 77th Street.

Pompano Beach

Juneteenth Blues and Sweet Potato Pie Festival is 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 15, and entry is free. The venue is Apollo Park, 1580 NW Third  Avenue, Pompano Beach 33060.

The event includes games for kids, face painting, food vendors, poetry, dance, performances including  African drumming, Juneteenth history, and other festivities. 

Fort Lauderdale

Juneteenth in Fort Lauderdale is 12 p.m.to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 15, with performances, food trucks, bounce houses, kids zone, vendors and art.

The venue is Carter Park, 1450 W. Sunrise Blvd., Fort Lauderdale 33311.

Plantation

Plantation Historical Museum is featuring a Juneteenth event 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, and entry is free. 

Plantation Historical Museum, 954-797-2722, is at 511 N. Fig Tree Lane, Plantation 33317. Parking is free.

Library in Plantation

Juneteenth presentation and discussion is 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at West Regional Library, 954-765-1560, in Plantation.  Register online. The library is at 8601 W. Broward Boulevard, Plantation 33324. Entry and parking are free.

Dania

Performances, DJ entertainment, and basketball tournament are featured at the Dania Juneteenth event 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Frost Park. The event includes food trucks with free food for the first 150 people. Frost Park is at 300 NE Second St., Dania Beach. Entry is free. Parking is free.

Deerfield Beach

Juneteenth festivities in Deerfield Beach include entertainment, food trucks and a kids' zone.  The event is 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at the recreation building at 445 SW Second St., Deerfield Beach.

Hollywood

South Florida Chamber Orchestra is featured in a free program focusing on Juneteenth and Fathers. The event is 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at the Hollywood branch library,

Lauderhill

Free Juneteenth presentation and saxophonist 11 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at Lauderdale Lakes branch library, 3580 W. Oakland Park Blvd., Lauderdale Lakes  33311. Register online.

Coconut Creek

Valerie Tyson Band is featured at Juneteenth festivities 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 15, with free entry. The event includes food trucks, a speaker and exhibits. Bring blankets or portable seats. No pets, please. The venue is outside at City Hall, 4800 West Copans Road, Coconut Creek 33063.

Plantation

A Juneteenth event is featured 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Plantation Heritage Park, 1100 S. Fig Tree Lane, Plantation 33317.

The first 10 people to arrive receive an adventure pack.  Holiday and weekend entry fees for the regional park are $3 per vehicle for up to 8 people.

Free films in Fort Lauderdale

Savor theater run by the Fort Lauderdale Film Festival in Fort Lauderdale is featuring

“Freedom Hair” film Wednesday, June 19, with discussion afterward featuring the woman whose tale is featured in the film, free tickets online

“Kemba” film Thursday, June 20, with live entertainment at 6 p.m. featuring  Feminafrica, free tickets online

Entry is free. A reception for each film is at 6 p.m. and includes live entertainment.

Savor is at 503 SE Sixth Street, Fort Lauderdale.

Miramar

Juneteenth Family Day is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, in Miramar. The Juneteenth event includes art projects, games, African art exhibit and a step show. Food vendors are at the event and The Little Library offers free books while supplies last. It's at City Hall Plaza, 2300 Civic Center Place. Parking is free.

Fort Lauderdale

A panel discussion about Juneteenth is featured 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at Lee YMCA, 1409 NW Sixth St., Fort Lauderdale. Register online.

Coral Springs, event with fee

An indoor Juneteenth party at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, features performances, tastings from local black-owned restaurants, and beverages for purchase.

Tickets are $35 for non-residents. Coral Springs residents receive a discounted rate of $25 with promocode BESTDAYEVER.

Performances include:

  • Fashion showcase ADU Salon
  • 8 p.m. comedian Preacher Lawson

Lauderhill

Broward Transit is featuring festivities for Juneteenth 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 at the Transit venue in front of Lauderhill Mall, 1359 NW 40th Avenue, Lauderhill.  The event includes entertainment, activities and a Juneteenth exhibit in a Broward bus. A raffle with prizes is included.
