Chanukah Festival in Fort Lauderdale

Happy Hanukkah! Broward County organizations have planned a number of public events to celebrate Hanukkah this year. The Jewish holiday falls on different days every year in the English calendar. In 2024, Hanukkah is December 25 through January 2, 2025.

Hanukkah celebrates both a military victory and a miracle. The holiday commemorates the victory of the Maccabees, a Jewish army, over the Syrian-Greek army, which enabled them to reclaim and rededicate the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. But, there was only enough oil to keep the candles lighted for one day. But, the light lasted for eight days, which is why Hanukkah is celebrated for eight days.

The menorah, with eight candles plus one for lighting, is a major symbol of Hanukkah, and Broward cities and organizations plan menorah-lighting celebrations to commemorate Hanukkah.
