The Norton Museum of Art boasts more than 700 objects from China that will be among the star attractions at its free annual Lunar New Year Community Day, set for noon-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024. The public is invited to help celebrate the Year of the Dragon.

At the free Community Day, there will be activities for guests of all ages. Visitors can learn from Hao Bang Ah, Dragon!, a shadow theater production by Chinese Theatre Works that features the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac. This year’s show stars the Dragon, who presides over a joyful selection of wild puppet skits, dances and songs, including The Lion and Dragon Dance, Riding the Dragon, Zodiac Parade and Monkey King Fights the Dragon.

Festivities continue with Dragon and Lion Dances featuring Lee Koon Hung Choy Lay Fut Kung Fu Association, and Jinlu Arts will perform Chinese dance with traditional instruments. “Storytainer” Monica Ladd will transport guests to another time as she tells traditional Chinese stories.
The Lunar New Year celebration kicks off on Feb. 9, 2024 at Art After Dark with a performance by Mr. Cao’s Trio, featuring violinist Adrienne Williams and cellist Anthony de Peña with traditional and modern compositions by Chinese composers, along with some classic masterpieces.
