Caribbean heritage events in Broward offer food and lively entertainment, with plenty of free events. Caribbean Heritage Month is traditionally celebrated in June.

Miramar

Steel Pans

Steel pan drums performance by Steel Away is 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Miramar branch library. The library, 954-357-8090, is at 2050 Civic Center Place. Entry and parking are free.

Fort Lauderdale

Las Olas Oceanside Park is offering free Caribbean Heritage Month events in June with food, entertainment and art. Vendors are featured at many events. The LOOP Farmers Market is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays during the summer.

Entertainment and events include:

  • 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 8. Sabor Latino Band
  • 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 9. Reggae beats
  • 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 15. Eddy Balzola and Oriente
  • 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 16. Reggae beats
  • 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 22. Pan Paradise Steel Drum Band
  • 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 23. Reggae beats
  • 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 29. Paul Anthony & The Reggae Souljahs 
  • 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 30. Reggae beats

Las Olas Oceanside Park is at 3000 E. Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale. 

Fees for parking apply. Parking information is available online.

Parking in the area includes Las Olas Beach Parking Garage, 200 Las Olas Circle, with a PayByPhone payment option using the PayByPhone APP. Parking fees usually are $4 an hour.

Tamarac

Groove in The Park is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Saturday, June 8, with performances, food vendors and live entertainment.

Entertainment and events include:

  • Food trucks
  • Pan Paradise Steel Drum Band
  • Jamaican reggae artist Nadine Sutherland
  • Lawn games
  • Photo opps with dancing stilt walkers

The event is at Caporella Park, 5200 Prospect Road, Tamarac.

Free shuttles are offered from Redeeming Word Christian Center, 2800 W. Prospect Road.

Bring portable seats and blankets.

Miramar

Taste of the Islands

Taste of the Islands is 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 22, and entry is free.

The venue is the amphitheater at Miramar Regional Park, 16801 Miramar Parkway, Miramar

The event is a food fest, with art and books, and live entertainment. Entry is free. Parking is $10. Food and beverages are offered for purchase.

Entertainment includes:

  • Food demonstrations
  • Junkanoo
  • Moko jumbies
  • Farmer Nappy
  • Visions Band
  • Gem Myers

Pembroke Pines

Caribbean American Heritage Festival is 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at City Center, 601 City Center Way, Pembroke Pines. Admission is free.

The event includes performances, food and item vendors, and workshops.
