Coral Springs offers free and inexpensive exercise programs for seniors

Coral Springs residents who are over age 55 can choose from a variety of physical activities that are challenging and fun.

The senior programs offered at the Coral Springs Senior Center at Sartory Hall, 10150  NW 29th St., are free or low cost. All new participants must check in at the Coral Springs Senior Center to sign a waiver and provide a photo and ID.

People can pursue strenuous or less strenuous exercise activities, with most fitness classes on weekday mornings. These are among the classes currently offered:

  • Stretch and Flex program offers easy to follow exercises designed to increase strength, help maintain healthy bone mass and prevent age-related muscle loss. This is followed by a stretch that will give you more freedom of movement for everyday activities. A chair is used for support.
  • Chair Yoga is a safe and healthy practice to maintain and improve agility, balance and coordination and deepen breathing.
  • Cardio Burn program is for active older adults who are looking for a workout that has easy steps is performed to uplifting music.
  • Strength Training program is designed to help people improve strength, tone lean muscle, and increase endurance while burning calories.
  • CardioDance is for those who like parties. People sweat and move to the beat of a variety of dance songs.
  • Sit, Fit and Restore program is a gentle movement, stretch and strength class that allows one to relax from the week’s workouts.
  • Walk and Danz Cardio encourages one to move and walk enough to get some quality exercise. The class is upbeat.
  • Low Impact Exercise class is where participants sit while they move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to deepen core connection, agility, boost overall well-being and improve balance.
  • Gentle Yoga is available to adults 55 and older who can get up and down from the floor. This approach involves the classical poses and breath work of Hatha Yoga. Body movement and breath are synchronized with emphasis on alignment and working within one’s capacity without strain. The goal is to increase strength, stamina, vitality, flexibility and mental clarity.
  • Line Dancing. This is an entry-level class designed to teach the basic moves.
  • Tai Chi.
  • Zumba Gold.

There are also cultural and social programs available, including creative writing, crochet, knitting, history and mahjong. The senior center also organizes trips and outings.
