Back for its 18th year, the festive tree lighting ceremony at the Shops at Merrick Park plans to dazzle spectators with new decor, activities, and a special performance.
Just not on Nov. 18, as previously planned.
Due to expected poor weather conditions, the event was rescheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021.
From 6-9 p.m., this Coral Gables destination for fine shopping and dining will kick off the holiday season with what’s billed as one of the largest tree lighting ceremonies and holiday celebrations in South Florida.
This year’s event plans to introduce a new majestic 50-foot tree with a 6-foot-tall star topper designed to leave spectators in awe. Colorful LED lights will decorate the tree. A snow show is also planned, to transform the Shops at Merrick Park into a winter wonderland with a special guest appearance by Santa as he rides down San Lorenzo Avenue on the Coral Gables Fire Department’s truck.
WSVN-Ch. 7 News co-anchor Belkys Nerey is scheduled to appear and help flip the magical switch to illuminate the tree.
“Shops at Merrick Park is delighted to reunite families for this much-anticipated annual tradition that showcases the best and brightest retail and cultural resources in our community,” said Andrew Peach, senior general manager at Shops at Merrick Park, in a statement. “After so much time apart taking care of our health and loved ones, we are committed to welcoming back our loyal shoppers, friends and neighbors to share the joy and hope of the holiday season.”
But wait, there’s even more! Special performances are lined up, including Miami native Preston Howell, who appeared on “The Voice” Season 17. The Miami Royal Ballet and Coral Gables Senior High School Gablettes will add festive spirit to the celebration.
The celebrations are sure to bring a smile to everyone! The Shops at Merrick Park is located at 358 San Lorenzo Ave., Coral Gables.
